KMCL Adds Alabama Partners & Office

Prominent Alabama attorneys Alan Truitt and Bart Turner have joined Kazmarek Mowrey Cloud Laseter LLP (KMCL) as Partners and have opened the firm’s new Birmingham, Alabama office.

Prior to joining KMCL, Truitt and Turner were Shareholders with the Birmingham-based law firm Maynard Cooper & Gale, where Truitt was co-chair of that firm’s environmental and toxic tort practices.

“We are thrilled that Alan and Bart are joining us,” said KMCL’s Bob Mowrey.  “They are first-rate attorneys with stellar reputations in environmental, toxic tort, and health and safety matters,” he added.

“We were attracted to the KMCL platform, including the firm’s regional prominence and success in representing clients nationally,” said Alan Truitt.  “The quality and sophistication of the work KMCL attracts is second to none, and we are excited to join such great people,” he remarked.  Turner added “KMCL has developed a special place in the market with a team of superb and highly-respected environmental lawyers—their depth and capability is matched by few if any other firms, including among the major law firms.”

Mowrey remarked, “We founded KMCL to provide the highest possible level of expertise and client service on a platform that makes business sense to our clients.”  He added, “Our new partners add to the capabilities and geographic reach we offer to clients.  With Alabama’s significant manufacturing heritage, we have always seen a high level of work in that state, and with Alan and Bart joining us, we are even stronger.”

Alan Truitt has more than 25 years of experience representing manufacturing and other heavily regulated clients in complex litigation and administrative matters.  He has regularly handled environmental, toxic tort, and other litigation for foundries, pipelines, plastics and chemical companies, steel mills, and mining companies.  He represents clients before the U.S. EPA and state and local regulatory agencies.  Before joining KMCL, he co-chaired Maynard Cooper & Gale’s Products Liability and Environmental Practice Group.

Truitt has extensive trial experience, including a recent five week jury trial on an environmental toxic tort claim against a major steelmaker.  “Alan’s extensive trial experience is very significant; he definitely adds to our litigation depth,” said Mowrey.

Bart Turner has handled environmental and health and safety matters for 15 years.  Before starting his law career, Bart obtained a master’s degree in Environmental Toxicology and worked at the Agency of Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (an arm of the Centers for Disease Control).  Bart handles enforcement, litigation, and compliance matters.  He routinely represents manufacturing clients before U.S. EPA and state and local environmental agencies, as well as before OSHA.

Turner’s OSHA experience broadens KMCL’s service offerings.  “Environmental and health and safety matters are closely knit areas for many of our clients.  We are glad to be able to offer Bart’s health and safety background to our clients,” remarked Mowrey.  “And his environmental toxicology background sets him apart in the environmental bar,” he added.
